The Manistee County Community Foundation is the only entity serving Manistee County that impacts all aspects of life – youth, education, the arts, environment, human services, economic development, and more. We administer more than 100 funds totaling over $20 million, and have proudly awarded more than $2 million in grants over our history to support areas of need.
The Manistee Area Public Schools Fund was established at the Manistee County Community Foundation in 1998 by an anonymous group of MAPS alumni. The purpose of the Fund is to support curriculum and technology improvements in the MAPS District. An advisory committee is comprised of school, Foundation, and community leaders.
What is Launch Manistee?
The Purpose of Launch Manistee is to build, coordinate and promote pathways to prepare its residents for school, college and a career. This involves a collective impact framework with the community working together as partners toward the same goals through a coordinated action plan. The role of the Launch Manistee program coordinator is to guide the vision and strategy, support the common activities, establish shared measurement practices, build public good will, advance policy, and mobilize funding. The Leadership Team of Launch Manistee provides the strategic direction and oversight. Launch Manistee is a community leadership initiative of the Manistee County Community Foundation.
Munson Healthcare – Manistee Hospital
In addition to partnering with MAPS to offer community programming at the Paine Aquatic Center, Munson Healthcare is a valuable community resource for our students and their families for creating healthy and prosperous lives, well-lived in Manistee.
Manistee Area Public Schools has the fortune of being surrounded by a community supportive of student achievement. Our MAPS community, family and friends have skills that are much needed in supporting our students throughout their Chippewa Journey. Chippewa Champions are our team of dedicated volunteers that bring their passion, dedication, and desire for positive impact to the lives of our students through their volunteer efforts.

Chocolate Fundraiser Update
Due to the extension of Stay Home ruling, the distribution of the Chocolate has been postponed until May 1st. While we cannot legally distribute the orders at this time, we continue to work behind the scenes with World’s Famous to ensure that all the products are in our hands and ready to deliver to students’ families the very moment the order is lifted. We appreciate your understanding and continued support of MAPS ATP.

What are the objectives of the ATP?
The Manistee Area Public Schools parent group Action Team for Partnership (ATP) is a group of dedicated parents that spearhead projects to benefit our students. It is similar to a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) only a little more prescriptive and based on committees, including:
- Learning at Home
- Decision Making
- Community Collaboration
What does ATP do?
We fundraise to help support our schools and students. We pay for field trips, school supplies, recess/playground equipment, books, staff appreciation activities, and more! We also organize many family events: Fall Carnival, Daddy-Daughter and Mother-Son nights, Holiday Caroling, Birthday Lunches, Book Fairs, and Santa Shop are some examples.
2018 Fundraiser - Wesco Popcorn Buckets! - MAPS Elementary ATP is pleased to announce that we are again selling the Wesco Popcorn Buckets this year. We are so excited to partner with our local Wesco Stations to make this possible.
Buckets will sell for $12 each and can be refilled for FREE at all Wesco stations around the state from now until December 31, 2019! This is a great holiday gift idea! See the announcements section on this page for details about our 2018 fundraiser, and check back for future fundraising information.
ATP Points Tracker
Starting January 2019, ATP is starting a point tracker for volunteers!
How do I earn points?
- Every ATP event (popcorn day, slushy day, winter carnival, etc.) every 2 hours you volunteer, you earn 1 point.
- For showing up to our ATP meeting that’s once a month, you earn 1 point.
- For suggesting a friend to volunteer & they show up for at least 2 hours, you earn 1 point.
All the points you earn will be entered for a drawing. At the end of the year, we will choose two winners. We hope to have a ton of volunteers!

Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy
Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy partners with MAPS and families to awaken the joy of learning in students and help them become self-motivated learners with greater academic success and confidence. Michigan-certified teachers provide guidance and work with students in live, online classes. An engaging, highly interactive curriculum challenges students with traditional core courses, art, music, world languages, career technical education electives, and more. A dual-enrollment program allows qualified high school students to earn college credits on select courses. Manistee Area Public Schools acts as the authorizer of the MGLVA charter.
Manistee Intermediate School District
Located in Manistee County, the Manistee Intermediate School District is a regional service agency which provides instructional and administrative services to four public school districts, two public academies and two non-public schools. We serve the community by helping all learners reach their full potential.
The ISD also works in consortium with many of the local service agencies to provide valuable opportunities for the children of Manistee County.
In partnership with West Shore Community College, MAPS offers our students expanded opportunities in focused learning through our Dual Enrollment Program.The Dual Enrollment program offers juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a head start on their college program by allowing enrollment in WSCC courses while they are still in high school. Successfully completed Dual Enrollment courses may be applied to a WSCC program or may be used for transfer to one of Michigan’s senior colleges. As an applicant to the Dual Enrollment program, you are reminded that, if admitted to the program, you will be considered a college student while participating in the approved course work, and you will be afforded all student rights and responsibilities as outlined in the current WSCC catalog.
You must complete a Dual Enrollment application for each semester you wish to be enrolled at WSCC. In order to be eligible for admission while in high school, you must submit passing ACT (18 English, 17 Reading) or COMPASS (Writing 74, Reading, 76} scores. You must also meet all prerequisite requirements listed for a course in which you wish to enroll.
Your high school counselor or principal must approve each course requested. A parent or legal guardian must approve, indicating his/her understanding of your involvement in college course work and his/her understanding of his/her possible financial obligation as a result of your enrolling in the course or courses. You also must complete the online orientation session in order to register for the class(es).

NWEA® is a research-based, not-for-profit organization that supports students and educators worldwide by creating assessment solutions that precisely measure growth and proficiency—and provide insights to help tailor instruction. For 40 years, NWEA has developed Pre-K–12 assessments and professional learning offerings to help advance all students along their optimal learning paths. Our tools are trusted by educators in 145 countries and more than half the schools in the US.
NWEA has created a NWEA Parent Toolkit that does an excellent job of explaining the test, as well as provides additional at-home support sites students can use for practice.

MI School Data
The MI School Data Parent Dashboard is filled with important school-level information that parents and others want to know about Michigan public schools, including charter schools.
The M-STEP is a 21st Century online test given for the first time in the Spring of 2015. It is designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. These standards, developed for educators by educators, broadly outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college. M-STEP results, when combined with classroom work, report cards, local district assessments and other tools, offer a comprehensive view of student progress and achievement. M-STEP Parent Report Video
To support teachers, parents, and student throughout the transition to higher expectations for all students, a newly developed video is now available which summarizes the M-STEP and walks viewers through how to read and interpret student scores within the M-STEP Parent Report. M-STEP Sample Item Sets
The Office of Standards and Assessment (OSA) has created online Sample Item Sets for the Spring 2016 M-STEP for students in grades 3-8. Sample Item Sets are a selected group of test items in English language arts (ELA), mathematics, science, and social students that encompass different item types, such as multiple choice, constructed response, and various kinds of technology-enhanced items. https://wbte.drcedirect.com/MI/portals/mi/ott1

The 2016 Testing Schedule for Online and Paper/Pencil Assessments has been combined with this document so you can find the online test windows, paper/pencil dates, and test timing\information in one place. The guide can be found on the M-Step web pager www.michigan.gov/mstep or any of the assessment web pages under the What’s New section.
Manistee County Library
The Manistee County Library is a 6-branch public library system serving all of Michigan’s Manistee County. The main library is located in Manistee at 95 Maple Street. Branch locations can be found in Arcadia, Bear Lake, Kaleva, Onekama and Wellston.
MCL offers community members many services. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff can assist you with research questions, book suggestions, and much more. The Manistee location houses over one-hundred years of local newspaper articles on microfilm.
All branches are equipped with computers for public access. They offer internet and Microsoft Office compatible programs. There are non-internet computers installed with fun, educational children’s games in the kids’ area of all MCL locations.
The youth services department offers programming throughout the year for babies and adults and all ages in between. Check out our schedule for story times, book clubs, writing contests, the Teen Advisory Board, holiday programming, summer reading programing and special events.
Madison Community Learning Center
From the moment your student is enrolled in Manistee Area Public Schools they become a member of our Chippewa family. Beginning with our youngest learners, each and every student is given the opportunity to identify their interests and chart a Chippewa Journey that will guide them through an individualized MAPS K-12 experience.
Paine Aquatic Center
The Paine Aquatic Center, along with its community partners, promotes community recreation, personal instruction, competition, rehabilitation and healthy living by offering an array of public activities throughout the year. The multi-use, community poolfacility for people of all ages, featuring a 4,600 sq. ft., 8 lane pool for instructional, competitive and recreational programs along with a 1,000 sq. ft. warm-water pool for therapy, rehabilitation and instructional programs.
Manistee Community Track
The Manistee Community Track was envisioned to unite our community in promoting healthy active lifestyles for all, community fitness, and the pursuit of lifelong sports participation. The track was designed to be used by Manistee County students from all schools, Manistee Recreation Association athletes, community runners and walkers of all ages, and groups from the community to provide fitness rehabilitation.
Manistee Recreation Association
The mission of the Manistee Recreation Association is to provide a balance of recreation activities for persons of all ages and abilities and to meet diverse interests of all community members in the greater Manistee Area while emphasizing healthy habits, respect, self importance and fun.
Armory Youth Project
The mission of the Armory Youth Project is to provide a safe environment where young people can build community and be encouraged in their educational, emotional, physical, and Christian spiritual development.
From the beginning, the leadership of Faith Covenant Church envisioned a partnership with the greater Manistee community from which the Youth Center would be programmed and operated. With the purchase of the former armory building in the fall of 2016, social service, judicial, faith-based and education leaders are collaborating on the facility’s design and programming.
